WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Members of the Whiteville Board of Education received a letter Monday warning them about praying at meetings.
According to Superintendent Thom Hager, the American Humanist Association sent the letter. Hager said sometimes they do pray at meetings. He said the board will discuss the letter and decide on the proper thing to do.
The non-profit notified the board with a letter asking for a response in a week in order to avoid legal action.
Humanists believe that you can live a good and moral life without believing in a higher power.
The group recently sent Wilmington City Council a letter about praying as well.
