COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Three men in Columbus County are facing charges for running an illegal gaming business.
In August, deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff's Office seized several illegal electronic gaming machines from businesses in Whiteville, Tabor City, and the New Hope community.
According to Sheriff Chris Batten, the businesses do not display a name out front, which allows the owners to try and hide what they're doing.
Batten said business owners were given a grace period when all sweepstakes parlors became illegal earlier this year, but now, there are no excuses.
As a result of the raid in August, James Bradley Reaves, Gregory Scott Powell, and Arnold Kay Williamson were all charged in connection to illegally owning games of chance.
