Woman charged with jury tampering out on bond

COLUMBUS COUNTY, (WECT) - A woman who was arrested for jury tampering is out on bond.

According to Columbus County sheriff's deputies, Karen Sealey Wright bonded out Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was $500,000.

On Aug. 24, Sealey Wright and her husband BJ Wright were both charged with jury tampering in his most recent court case. Wright was on trial this earlier this month for habitual felon charges, but the judge continued the trial to investigate the claims of jury tampering. Wright's attorney also stepped down from the case.

Karen Sealey Wright faces one count of offering bribes, one count of harassing/communicating with a juror, two felony conspiracy charges, three counts of obstruction and three counts of harassment of a juror.

According to arrest warrants obtained, Sealey Wright offered to pay a juror named Dana Love $2,500, if he would vote not guilty in Wright's criminal case. Love's girlfriend tells us, they were in Walmart shopping, when Sealey Wright approached them and offered the bribe.

Sealey Wright also allegedly went to another juror's home and asked him to vote not guilty.

BJ Wright is charged with two counts of harassment of a juror, one count of obstruction of justice and one felony conspiracy charge. His bond is a half million dollars for these current charges.  He was already in jail at the time.

BJ Wright has had several public issues involving former State Senator RC Soles in recent years. Earlier this month, Wright was accused of jumping through a second-story window of the Columbus County Courthouse while in a meeting with his attorney.
