COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Eighteen area students recently graduated from an innovative Nurse Aide 1 class at Southeastern Community College.
The program was the result of a partnership between the N.C. Community College System, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and a number of other agencies and businesses. Funded by a federal Personal and Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST) grant, DHHS is working with the partners to address the workforce challenges and training needs of direct care workers in the state.
In addition to implementing a new curriculum, Southeastern also accelerated its Nurse Aide 1 schedule for the pilot project, allowing students to graduate in five weeks instead of the traditional eight weeks.
