COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at Hallsboro/Artesia Elementary School have been pretty busy lending a helping hand to the community over the past few months.

Homeroom classes there raised money for American Red Cross/Hurricane Sandy relief.

The school raised a total of $350, according to the Columbus County School System’s website, with Emma Shaw's and Hilda Jacobs’ first grade class donating the most money.

Around Christmastime, students and faculty contributed 150 toys to donate to Toys for Tots, with Shaw’s and Jacobs’ class again donating the most.

Additionally, the school collected about 200 Christmas cards to send to Holiday Smile for a, which sends the cards to veterans.
