COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College invites the public to join the campus community in commemorating Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at noon with a performance by the 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus. The free event will be held in the SCC Auditorium.

The 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus started in 1967 as an informal group that sang during Sunday services in the Division Chapel. Four decades later, the chorus has members representing every unit in the 82nd Airborne Division.

The a capella group has sung for governors and legislators, at professional athletic events and Armed Forces balls. Now the chorus is known as ambassadors of the 82nd Airborne Division, performing throughout the continental US.

“The purpose of the event is to recognize and honor the military veteran’s for their service to our country,” said Bill Maultsby, SCC human resources administrator, who organizes the annual Veterans Day ceremony. “With approximately 200 in attendance, it is one of the best attended events offered at the College.”

In addition to hosting an annual Veterans Day program for its students and the community, the College also participates in the Veterans Oral History Project in association with the Library of Congress. The project allows veterans to reflect on their military service during a videotaped interview.

For more information about the Veterans Day program or the Veterans Oral History Project, contact Bill Maultsby at (910) 642-7141, ext. 310 or bill.maultsby@sccnc.edu.
