WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced Wednesday that the Whiteville Fire Department has been given $43,225 in federal funds to go towards operations and safety improvements, according to McIntyre’s press secretary.
Additionally, the Southport Volunteer Fire Department received $66,500.
“Ensuring that our fire departments have the resources and tools they need to do their job is a priority for me, and I am pleased these funds are coming home to help Southport VFD and Whiteville FD,” McIntyre said in a statement. “We must do all we can to protect our citizens and communities, and these federal resources will help do just that. Congratulations to both of these departments!”
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awards such funds through its firefighters’ assistance program.
