CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) – More than 100 people were arrested in Columbus County during the annual Strawberry Festival on drug, alcohol, weapon and vehicle charges.
ALE agents and Columbus County authorities worked together to ensure a safe festival for residents and visitors May 4-5.
“We appreciate the help from ALE to help curb illegal activity and alcohol violations in Columbus County,” said Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten in a press release.
According to the NC Department of Public Safety, charges during the festival included maintaining a vehicle for selling controlled substances, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of ecstasy, trafficking opium, carrying concealed weapons and multiple charges of driving with revoked licenses.
Authorities took 17 people to jail, 15 of whom were charged with a felony and two had outstanding warrants.
