Man sentenced for killing mother's beau with golf club | Crime

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man in Columbus County will spend up to six years in prison for killing a man with a golf club last year.

According to officials, Larry Simmons and  his mother's boyfriend Phillip Ikner were arguing at home in Nakina in January 2011.

Deputies say Simmons hit Ikner with a blow that knocked him over, causing him to hit his head on a table. Ikner was taken to a hospital in Whiteville, where he later died.

Simmons was sentenced in court Monday for voluntary manslaughter.
