A former inmate gives back to Columbus County with a new book.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A man in Columbus County puts his life on paper and says he wants to give back to the county he took so much from.

Michael Powell spent more than a decade in prison for selling cocaine and marijuana. He's been out of prison two years and now has a book called The Class President's Son.

The book is about redemption. Powell says he wants young people to know that making money illegally will never be worth it.

Powell will have a book signing at the North Carolina Museum of Forestry in Whiteville on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 5:00 p.m.

He says he's in the process of trying to get his book in Barnes and Nobles.
