COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College’s Workforce and Community Development Division will offer continuing education classes and a seminar in the coming weeks.

Financial assistance with registration fees and books to gain new employment-related skills may be available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other funding sources.

Introduction to Landscaping
Introduction to Landscaping will be held Mondays, Feb. 4-March 25, 6-9 p.m. in A-Building, room 228. This course will provide a comprehensive look at the landscape industry. Topics will include creation of landscape designs using plants, shrubs, ground covers and trees; proper identification and usage of tools; and selection of turf grass and maintenance of grounds. The course fee is $65 plus $1.25 insurance.
Bookkeeping 101
Bookkeeping 101 will be held Mondays, Feb. 4- March 25, 6-9 p.m. in A-Building, room 230. Attendees will learn how to classify and record basic business transactions, enter data into an account, chart accounts, prepare financial statements and learn basic accounting terms. The course fee is $65, and financial assistance may be available through the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
Successful Business Start-Up
Successful Business Start-Up will be held on Mondays, Feb, 4-March 25, 6-9 p.m. in T-Building, room 111. Utilizing the NC REAL (Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning) curriculum, participants will learn to start, expand and improve their own small business. Topics will include business plan creation, funding and budgets, legal structure and taxes, market analysis, and personnel management. Prior business experience is not required. The course fee is $65 plus $14 for the textbook. Financial assistance may be available through N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
Notary Public
Notary Public will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, and Thursday, Feb. 7, 5:30-9:30 p.m. in T-Building, room 122. This class covers qualifications and requirements for the office, fees, general powers and limitations, oaths, depositions, and papers notarized in error. Students are required to have a high school diploma or GED to attend class. A valid picture ID will be required at registration. The course fee is $65 and the textbook, “Notary Public Guidebook for NC,” will be available for $27 plus tax.
Creating a Winning Business Plan
Creating a Winning Business Plan will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 6-9 p.m. in T-Building, room 111. If you think now is the time to start a business - you’re right! This program covers the basics of putting together a business plan that will assist you with the start-up and funding of your business.
