COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Southeastern Community College Financial Aid Office will host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Day on Saturday, Feb.18. College financial aid officers will be available in A-Building from 9 a.m.-noon to help current and future students, including high school seniors and families, complete and submit their FAFSA forms.
The FAFSA is required to be considered for all federal and most state financial aid for college.
Students are encouraged to register through the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) for the FAFSA Day Program at Southeastern. Registration is available at CFNC.org/fafsaday or by calling 866-866-CFNC toll-free. Students also may call SCC directly at 642-7141, ext. 214 or 250.
To complete the FAFSA, students should bring their federal 1040 tax forms for 2012 as well as their parents’ forms to the event. Participating students and parents are encouraged to obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U.S. Department of Education website, www.pin.ed.gov, prior to FAFSA Day. To save time on the day of the event, it is also helpful if participants complete as much of the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet as possible prior to the program. The online Worksheet is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
“Students and parents shouldn’t be concerned if they cannot answer all of the questions on the forms,” said Glenn Hanson, SCC director of financial aid. “That’s why we have arranged for experienced financial aid officers to help them during FAFSA Day.”
To receive the most financial aid possible, students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA form as soon as possible after January 1 prior to each academic school year. Applicants need the following information: Social Security Number; driver's license, if applicable; U.S. income tax returns; records of untaxed income: Social Security benefits, veterans benefits, welfare, temporary assistance to needy families or child support; and current bank statements, investment records and mortgage information.
For more information about FAFSA Day, contact the SCC Financial Aid office at 642-7141 ext. 214 or ext. 250.
