LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) – A leaking water main along McRae Lane is causing periods of low pressure and outages in Lake Waccamaw.
The Division of Water Resources advised that when water is restored, consumers should boil all water used for human consumption. The advisory includes water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation on McRae Lane, Cypress Street and White Oak Street. The low pressure can reportedly increase the potential for back siphonage, which introduces bacteria into the water system.
Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be in the water, according to a news release from the Town of Lake Waccamaw.
Consumers are also asked to conserve water whenever possible.
