WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – An SUV crash damaged a private sewer main Tuesday afternoon in Whiteville, causing a spill, according to Whiteville City Manager Larry Faison.
Around 3:51 p.m., an SUV crashed near Washington Street and Legion Field, and the vehicle allegedly damaged a main serving a mobile home park.
The name of the mobile home park has not been officially identified, though Faison did write in the news release that there have been separate reports that it is Lowery’s Mobile Home Park or Ruth Stanley Trailer Park.
Highway patrol, HAZMAT, city public works and fire department officials all arrived on scene and have contacted the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources regarding the spill.
As of the time of this posting, the trailer park owner reported that the sewer main was not actively pumping following the crash. The owner was told to turn off the pump to help reduce any additional spill.
