German shepherd pups in need of families to adopt

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – As of the time of this posting, two female German shepherd mix puppies will be available to adopt starting Wednesday, according to Friends of Columbus County, NC Animals.

Shelter officials say the dogs are about four to six weeks old.

If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, the following steps are necessary:

Tourism up in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Even though Columbus County does not have any beaches or amusement parks like some of its neighboring counties, that's not stopping people from visiting.

According to members of the county's tourism bureau, tourism was up nearly 9 percent in 2011 .

The bureau's executive director says most of the tourists stop in Columbus County on their way to beaches in Brunswick County or Myrtle Beach.

County officials also say that people are visiting Lake Waccamaw, rivers, and camp grounds.

Dept. of Aging moves to new building

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Department of Aging in Columbus County officially has a new building.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening was held Thursday morning for the new building located at 827 Washington Street in Whiteville.

Congressman Mike McIntyre was at the event. He helped secure $450,000 towards the department.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – As of the time of this posting, five Labrador mix puppies are in need of homes, according to Friends of Columbus County, NC Animals.

The two pictured are both females, and are anywhere from six to eight weeks old.
