Down East Connect business is down

Down East Connect business is down

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Business is down for a popular online farming service in Columbus County.

Down East Connect allows people in Wilmington, Shallotte, and Hampstead to go online and order fresh produce from farmers in Columbus County.

Some farmers believe Whole Foods, which opened in Wilmington a few months ago is to blame for fewer customers.

But organizers of Down East Connect say, during the summer customers have more options when it comes to buying produce.

Organizers say, since farmers with Down East Connect grow crops year round, they tend to see business pick back up during the winter.
