Chris Wilcox to return to Celtics | News

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Whiteville's Chris Wilcox has agreed to a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Wilcox, who had surgery to correct an enlarged aorta last February, was cleared for full contact and basketball activity last week.

"I had a lot of doubts about it before," he told the Boston Globe Friday. "But after the surgery it just kept getting better and better. I'm just happy right now about being in a situation where I have the opportunity to play again. It's a blessing."

Wilcox appeared in 28 games last season, averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds over 17.2 minutes per game before his diagnosis.

The 10-year veteran has never been to postseason, but the Celtics kept him a part of the team even after he was waived to make room for center Ryan Hollins.
