LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) - Emergency workers in Columbus County have recovered the body of a boater that went missing over the weekend. Crews found David Burns Goldston Jr's body in the water around 7 p.m. Monday.
Family members have been notified. The boat Goldston was in was found yesterday spinning in circles without a driver. Goldston is a former mayor pro tem in Lake Waccamaw.
Someone spotted the boat driving in circles in the water near Canal Cove Road around 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Ben Reeves shot video of the boat and shared it with WECT.
Rangers from Lake Waccamaw State Park and local police officers found equipment and personal belongings of the man they believe is missing.
They conducted a search on and off shore. They were in the water until midnight Sunday and resumed their search efforts at 7:00 a.m. Monday.
