WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Whiteville City Council members have found a temporary fix for a mold issue in city hall happening in the building's basement, which is the result of a moisture issue.

Some employees will be moved, but it's where to that may raise some eyebrows – into a building owned by a council member.

City Council member Sara Thompson and her husband own Trigon, which is the company that the city will be leasing the building from.

Three employees work in that area, so Tuesday night, council members will vote to temporarily relocate the works to a space in the Lewis Smith Shopping Center.

Whiteville Mayor Terry Mann says the city renting property from a council member could raise questions.

However, he adds that out of all the properties they looked into, Thompson's property is the best deal.

If council members vote to lease from Trigon Properties, they will have to pay a little more than $1,000 a month.

Mann says that they hope to have the employees out of the basement by October, adding that if that happens, the basement will remain empty while they accept bids and decide when to repair it.
