Commissioners tackle beaver population | News

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Columbus County are trying to tackle a beaver issue in the area.

Commissioners have passed two options they hope will help control the beaver population.

They voted to waive a $20 fee landowners have to pay every time they call a beaver control officer. In return, the county will pay $6,000.

Commissioners also voted to give a pilot beaver bounty program a try for half a year. People who bring in beaver tails will receive $30.

County manager Bill Clark said there are policies and procedures in place to ensure the beavers turned in are from Columbus County.
