WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Eight miles of one lane on US 74 and 76 will be under construction between NC Hwy 214 and the Brunswick County line.
According to Drew Cox, the DOT district engineer for Columbus and Bladen counties, crews will be working to repave the highway and widen it to 30 feet to help people get control of their vehicle when they drive off the road.
Additionally, crews are working on drainage work and repairing bumps and cracks along the road.
Cox said the majority of the construction should be finished by spring, but pending the weather, the lane could be closed in each direction until October of 2013.
Construction will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 5:15 p.m.
