COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The owner of the Tortimex Plant in Whiteville is interested in reopening, but needs help from a manufacturer to get the building back up and running.
Economic Director Gary Lanier is going to the California League of Food Processing Conference in February to recruit a manufacturer to partner with the Tortimex Plant owner.
According to Lanier, a Golden Leaf marketing grant is paying for the trip.
The economic director said while on the trip he'll also look for another food processor that can use the existing equipment in the Tortimex building.
