COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Columbus County commissioners hope, proposing to spend money on potential legal fees will prove they're serious about getting trains back up in running in the county.
It's been more than a year since a train has traveled through the county, due to the rail system not meeting government regulations.
Commissioners, recently voted to spend up to $30,000 on any legal fees that may surface, while they work with officials in two South Carolina counties to get trains traveling again.
Officials tell us, companies are showing interest in buying the rail system from Carolina Southern Railroad.
If the money is used, it will come out of the county's fund balance. Officials in others areas being impacted by the rail system are expected to set aside money as well.
