COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Sixteen bridges in Columbus County will be replaced within the next three years.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded E.S. Wagner Co., LLC, a South Carolina-based company, a $11.6 million contract to do the job, according to a news release from an NCDOT spokesperson.

Work can begin as early as April 1 and should be finished by Nov. 2016.

The following bridges and culverts will be replaced:

  • the Mark Pine Bay bridge over Simmons Bay Branch near Old Dock
  • the N.C. 130 bridge over the Waccamaw River overflow near Old Dock
  • the N.C. 214 bridge over a branch of Bogue Swamp Branch near Hallsboro
  • two bridges on Farley Road over Bogue Swamp near Hallsboro
  • a culvert on Red Hill Road over a branch of Troy Mill near Welches Creek/White Marsh
  • the Jenkins Road bridge over Slades Swamp near Rico
  • the Rico Road bridge over Slades Swamp near Rico
  • the Sessions Road bridge over Welch Creek near Welches Creek/White Marsh
  • two bridges on Old Glade Road over Welch Creek near Welches Creek/White Marsh
  • the Old Lake Road bridge over Slap Swamp near Lake Waccamaw
  • the M.M. Ray Road culvert at Cow Bog Branch near Old Dock
  • the M.M. Ray Road culvert at a tributary of Simmons Bay Branch near Old Dock
  • the Cove Canal Road culvert near Lake Waccamaw
  • the M.M. Ray bridge over Big Branch in Monte Swamp near the Bethel community and Nakina
