SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) - In South Carolina, one lawmaker is proposing a bill that would allow school employees with concealed weapons permits to bring their weapons onto campus.
In North Carolina, members of one of the state's main pro-gun groups are also pushing lawmakers to arm teachers.
Members of the group, Grass Roots North Carolina, say next month, they plan to seek legislation that would allow teachers and others with concealed handgun permits to have guns in classrooms.
The president of Grass Roots stated in a recent news release that gun free school zones are actually contributing to school killings.
Wednesday, Rep. Susi Hamilton, said that she believes gun control should be talked about, but she would like to see state lawmakers focus more on mental health.
