Write-in candidate wins Chadbourn Town Council seat

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Incumbent Fax Rector will once again be serving on the Chadbourn Town Council.

Rector ran as a write-in candidate and received the most votes in Chadbourn with 186. He will be joined by Brian Edwards and Edwin Roberts.

Here are the results:

  • Fax Rector – 186
  • Edwin Roberts - 156
  • Brian Edwards - 151

Mayoral candidate requests a recount

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Nearly a week after the 2011 municipal elections, one mayoral candidate in Columbus County said he will request a recount.

Gary Graham lost to incumbent Frank Wilson in the Town of Bolton by only ten votes.  He said there was some confusion about the winner on election night.

Graham said he owes a recount to his supporters because there was wrong information and the votes were so close.

Three seats open on Chadbourn town council

CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) - In Chadbourn, three town council seats are open.

Incumbents Donald Ray Bass and Brian Edwards are seeking re-election.

Fax Rector, who's mayor pro tem, was not going to run but changed his mind saying voters needed more options. Since he missed the filing date, he's a write-in candidate.

Edwin Roberts is running for a seat, along with write-in candidate David Worley.

Five seeking two Lake Waccamaw town council seats

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) - Tuesday is election day for municipality elections and five people are seeking seats for Lake Waccamaw town council.

Jimmy Stanley is running for east ward, Eric Baldwin and Cathy Neilson are two write-in candidates for east ward. Incumbent Earl Harris is not seeking re-election.

Incumbent Lynn Cain is seeking re-election for west ward. Robert Collum is also running for west ward.

Almost 250 from Columbus County vote early

Almost 250 from Columbus County vote early

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Early voting was open from Thursday, Oct. 20 to Saturday, Nov. 5 and almost 250 people took advantage of it in Columbus County.

According to Board of Elections officials, 233 citizens voted in the county.

Columbus Co. Commissioners to meet Monday, 6:30 p.m.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Columbus County Board of Commissioners will meet on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Here are some items of interest from the agenda:

  • Public hearing to discuss new county commissioners re-districting plan
  • Public hearing for text amendment to manufactured/mobile home park ordinance
  • Public hearing for updated multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan
  • Kathy Matlock, President of Southeastern Community College, is requesting the Board’s approval to transfer capital outlay appropriation balance to current expense and current expense appropriation to be allocated as part of the monthly allotment.
  • Presentation about water department issues
  • New payment standards and occupancy standards for Columbus County public housing authority
  • Approval of Airport Grant agreement VISION 100 Grant

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – One-stop voting ends on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Columbus County.

Residents may vote between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Board of Elections Office, located at 50 Legion Drive, Suite A, in Whiteville.

You will stay have on more opportunity to vote for your favorite candidates on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.
