COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College’s Workforce and Community Development Division will offer several seminars in the coming weeks. To pre-register or for more information, call (910) 642-7141, ext. 296, 397 or 425.

Financial assistance with registration fees and books to gain new employment-related skills may be available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other funding sources. To see if they qualify, students should contact the Columbus County JobLink Career Center immediately at (910)642-7141, ext. 261 or by visiting the Center in A-Building on the SCC campus.

Sheriff's office presenting program aimed to deter reckless driving

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Columbus County Sheriff's Office will be teaming up with local schools and agencies soon to present a program aimed to warn students and parents of reckless driving.

According to a news release from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the program will be presented during the week of March 25, at both West Columbus High School and South Columbus High School.

Authorities say teen drivers are being injured at an alarming rate, and something needs to be done.

The event comes after the new addition to the main building for students in third through fifth grades.

SCC to dedicate Nesmith Student Center on March 27

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College invites the public to celebrate the eagerly anticipated grand opening of the Nesmith Student Center on Wednesday, March 27, at 11 a.m.

The completely renovated facility, formerly known as G-Building, serves as the hub for student life. The building, located in the center of campus, houses a fitness center, bookstore, Academic Skills Lab, Rams Cafe, and classrooms, as well as offices for Columbus Career and College Academy.

West Columbus student charged for having gun on campus

West Columbus student charged for having gun on campus

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Deputies in Columbus County were called to West Columbus High School last week for reports of vehicles being sprayed with milk.

Investigators said some students made violent threats about what they would do if their vehicle was sprayed with milk.

According to deputies, a 17-year-old student showed a gun after going to his truck.

Investigators say the student claims it was a mistake, and the gun was left in his truck from when he went coyote hunting.

The student was charged with having a weapon on school property.
