SCC offers continuing education courses

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College’s Workforce and Community Development Division will offer a continuing education class and several seminars in the coming weeks. To pre-register or for more information, call (910) 642-7141, ext. 296, 397 or 425.

Financial assistance with registration fees and books to gain new employment-related skills may be available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other funding sources.

To see if they qualify, students should contact the Columbus County JobLink Career Center immediately at (910) 642-7141, ext. 261 or by visiting the Center in A-Building on the SCC campus.

Elementary school students tell bullies to "moo-ve over"

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Bullies and animals aren’t usually thought of together, but one area school got creative when it came to the subject of bully awareness and prevention.

The theme to raise awareness on the subject recently at Hallsboro/Artesia Elementary School was "Moo-ve Over Bullies,” according to the Columbus County Schools’ website.

Students took part in a variety of anti-bullying activities through the week.

West Brunswick to host Whiteville Friday on the court

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students at West Brunswick High School may be on vacation until Wednesday, but the athletes are busy preparing for their game Friday.

The Trojans basketball teams will host Whiteville Friday with tip off at 4:00 p.m.

According to the school’s website, the JV women’s team will play first, followed by the JV men. Then, the varsity women’s team will take the court and the varsity men’s team will wrap up the night.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you can’t make it to Friday night’s basketball games between East Columbus High School and St. Paul’s, there’s no need to worry – you can still check out the game from home.

According the Columbus County school system’s website, starting at 6 p.m., you can watch the games online, or just listen to the audio.

If you don’t have a computer, you even can check out the game from your smartphone.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College’s Small Business Center will offer a Leadership and Management Certification Program during the spring semester.

Survival Skills for the Small Business Owner will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 1-4 p.m. in T-Building, room 122. If you aren’t delegating and coaching, you’re not leading.

SCC to “Share the Love” at Feb. 14 event

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College invites the public to celebrate Valentine’s Day at an event called “Share the Love,” where faculty members will share their passion for the college’s program areas with SCC students and the community.

Local artists will also be on hand to display their work, and the event will conclude with SCC’s Got Talent, a talent showcase in the College’s auditorium.

Coordinators are seeking local artisans to "share their love” of visual arts, crafts, or music during this event.

East, West Columbus high schools to play each other in basketball Friday

East, West Columbus high schools to play each other in basketball Friday

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The East Columbus and West Columbus high school basketball teams will compete on the court Friday, according to The News Reporter.

The games will be held at West Columbus. At 4 p.m., the girls’ JV teams will play, followed by the boys’ JV teams at 5:30 p.m.

Afterwards, the girls’ varsity teams will play at 7 p.m., then the boys’ at 8:30 p.m.

West Columbus is located at 7294 Andrew Jackson Hwy. in Cerro Gordo.
