SCC to host Eco-Run on April 13

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College will host an Eco-5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. on the College’s campus. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Kids Fun Run, for children 12 years old and younger, will take place in the circle drive in front of A-Building. The 5K will take place in the loop drive around campus, with the start/finish line in front of A-Building.

The overall male and female winner will receive a medal. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will receive a certificate.

Space still available to canoe at Lake Waccamaw State Park this weekend

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) – The Cape Fear Sierra Club is inviting you to explore Lake Waccamaw State Park on Sunday, March 24.

Park rangers will lead a two-hour paddle beginning at 10 a.m. All equipment is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own boat.

Participants must be able to swim.

‘Boomer Games’ sporting event for seniors scheduled for April

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) –Senior citizens in Columbus County will soon be participating in the 2013 Columbus Boomer Games, according to the Tabor City Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

The event, which is scheduled for April, includes a 5K, bowling, golf, cycling and more. An awards celebration will take place May 3.

Sign your kids up for tee-ball

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – If you’re planning on signing your kids up for a sports league this spring, Whiteville Parks and Recreation is accepting registration for tee-ball for kids ages 4 through 6.

According to the City of Whiteville’s Facebook page, registration is $15 for city residents and $25 for county residents.

Registration, which is open to both boys and girls, will end April 5.

SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WECT) – If you’re a big high school sports fan, you know that nothing is worse than not knowing whether or not your team won a game, or what the final score was.

Now, WECT is now sending text alerts with the final scores straight to your phone.

Canoe through Lake Waccamaw

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) – The water canoe program at Lake Waccamaw is hosting a canoe trip soon, according to an event organizer.

Participants will begin paddling through Big Creek, then into Lake Waccamaw. Beginner and experienced paddlers are welcome, but participants must be able to swim.

Stream WCHS/ECHS basketball games from home

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The West Columbus High School/East Columbus High School basketball games scheduled to be played Friday will be broadcast by students from Columbus Career and College Academy starting at 4 p.m., according to the Columbus County Schools’ website.

The JV games will be streamed through the internet, and the varsity games will be streamed through the internet and the radio.
