TRAFFIC ALERT: Section of US 74/76 East will be closed starting Friday

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - According to a press release, the North Carolina DOT is temporarily closing a section of U.S. 74/76 East at Livingston Creek between Freeman and Delco in Columbus County on Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m. through Monday, March 25 at 8 a.m., weather permitting.

The closure is necessary to repair the bridge approach on U.S. 74/76 East. Workers will remove the dirt and replace it with concrete and repave the road on the bridge.

Drivers traveling U.S. 74/76 East will take the six-mile signed detour route: N.C. 11 North to N.C. 87 South back to U.S. 74/76.

Drivers traveling U.S. 74/76 West from Wilmington to Lumberton will not be affected by the closure.

Sheriff's office presenting program aimed to deter reckless driving

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Columbus County Sheriff's Office will be teaming up with local schools and agencies soon to present a program aimed to warn students and parents of reckless driving.

According to a news release from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, the program will be presented during the week of March 25, at both West Columbus High School and South Columbus High School.

Authorities say teen drivers are being injured at an alarming rate, and something needs to be done.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Midway Road closed for the rest of the month

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina DOT will close Midway Road for the rest of the month.

Bridge maintenance crews will replace a bridge along the road with a large pipe. Construction will take place for the next three weeks.

The road is expected to re-open Friday, March, 15 at 5 p.m.

Pone Hill Road in Columbus County will be closed next week

HALLSBORO, NC (WECT)- The North Carolina DOT will be close Pone Hill Road near Red Bug Road in Columbus County on Monday, February 11 at 7 am.

This closure is necessary so crews can replace cross line pipe along the road. The road is expected to re-open Tuesday, February, 12 at 3:30 pm.

Use an alternative route if you plan to travel on Pone Hill Road during those times.

HALLSBORO, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina DOT will close Cherry Town Rd. off of Hallsboro Rd. in Columbus County on Monday, Feb. 04.

This closure is necessary so crews can replace old pipes along the road.

The road is expected to re-open Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 3:30 p.m.

Plan an alternative route if you need to access Pone Hill Rd. or Hallsboro Rd. during this time.

Traffic alert for drivers traveling in Columbus County

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Hallsboro Rd. in Columbus County will be closed, according to North Carolina DOT.

The closure is necessary so crews can replace the bridge at the Bladen County Line.

Drivers are encouraged to take the assigned detour:

Columbus County traveling north on Hallsboro Rd. , turn right onto Rehobeth Church Rd., which turns into Farmers Union Rd. at the Bladen County line. Then, make a left turn onto Porterville School Rd. which takes you back to Hallsboro Rd.

Construction will take place for the next four months. The road will be back open on Wednesday, May, 15 .
