A low pressure system will sharpen over the Carolinas Wednesday and Thursday and bring increased chances for showers and thunderstorms. The main threats with any storms will be - typical for summertime - torrential downpours, lightning, and some gusty straight line winds.
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY FORECAST: Expect variable clouds and daily highs in the 80s. Rain chances will start low (20% for Wednesday morning) and then grow higher (40% for late Wednesday and 50% for Thursday). Beach highlight: moderate risk of rip currents for New Hanover and Pender County beaches Wednesday.
EXTENDED FORECAST: Daily rain chances will trend back down to near 30% for Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will consistently reach the 80s each afternoon but will likely fall to the 70s for the nights and in times of rain-cooling.
